Schedule
With a 6 person league, Everybody will play everybody 3 times, almost. We are going to take a vote at the start of the year as to whether we are going to have 3 teams make the playoffs, the over all winner getting a bye, or have just 2. If its just 2, then everybody will play everybody 3 times, taking us through week 15. Week 16 will then be the Superbowl. If we have 3 teams make the playoffs we will stop play after week 14, have the play in game week 15 and superbowl week 16, thus meaning you will play every team 3 times except for one team.
Rosters.
With 6 teams, we are going to have a bit different starting rosters than most people are used to.
Starting Positions
QB – 2
RB – 3
WR/TE – 3
Kicker – 1
Def/ST – 1
Flex – 1 (RB,WR,TE)
You must have at least 16 players on your roster at all times. Other than that, you can have as many as you Salary cap will let you.
Salary Cap
Speaking of Salary Cap. Your Salary Cap is Set at 200.
Players Under Contracts –
You may voluntarily sign/re-sign players to 3 types of Deals.
3 Year, 2 year, and 1 year deals.
You may sign/re-sign 3 year deals until you have 3 of those types of contracts on your team.
You may sign/re-sign 2 year deals until you have 5 of those types of contracts on your team.
You may sign/re-sign as many 1 year deals as you wish.
The only way around this is through trade. If the result of a trade gives you more than 3 3year or 5 2year contracts, that’s OK.
(Basically, you will chose which players you drafted, after the draft will be assigned to 3 year(up to 3), and 2 year(up to 5) contracts, at the end of the year the 3 years become 2 years, so you have 3 of your 5 2 years already)
1st year Fantasy Draft.
It’s a snake draft 1-6 round one, 6-1 round two and so on. Each round has a designated contract, but no designated year. You get to choose how long the contract will run. Here is the Round By Round contract value.
1-20 2-18 3-16 4-15 5-14 6-13 7-12 8-12 9-11 10-10 11-9 12-8 13-7 14-6 15-5 16-4 17-1 18-1 19-1 20-1
All these add up to 190 credits. The cap 200, so you have 10 credits to play with during the freeagents without cutting any players.
Free Agents
First lets start with cutting players:
When you cut a player, you will receive a penalty of half their remaining salary taken off your salary cap, for the duration of their contract. For example, if you have a player with a contract of 10credits for 3 years. If you cut this player, your salary cap will drop from 200, to 195 over the next 3 seasons, so use your long contracts wisely.
A player that has the salary of 1 credit has no penalty, and can be dropped at will.
Free Agents during the season
Each week you will Email your offer(s) with the credits your offering and the years, to an email address that will be controlled by a third party. Each wed night during the regular season the 3rd party will release the password to the email, so everyone can go check the results, and the highest bidders will have the players by Thursday noon.
You will have the ability to rank your wants in FA on your email. For example, you will send an email that looks like this:
Pickup RB Mike Jones Dallas Cowboys, $3 for one year.
If I don’t get Jones, pick up RB John Smith New York Giants, $4 for one year.
So on and so forth.
During the off-season Free agents will be a little different. Lets talk about the off season now.
Re-signing players
You have the ability to re-sign/re-structure 2 players on your team at the end of the season for either +$2 of their previous contract or +25%(rounded up) of their previous contract, which ever is greater. Example:
If you want to re-sign a player making $2, his new contract will be $4.
If you want to re-sign a player making $12, his new contract will be $15.
You also have the ability to re-structure any of your long term contracts with the same points structure. But keeping in mind that you can only sign 3 – 3 year player and 5 – 2 year players per year. Example:
You have Mike Jones, RB under contract for 1 more year at $15 per. You can re-stretchers him to a new 3 year deal at &15 plus 25%, which would be $19.
Again you have the ability to do this to up to two players, but don’t have to. This allows you to have a roll over of 10 players from year to year (your 3-3year guys, 5-2year guys, and 2 FA), which is all but one of your starters.
Rookie Draft
Every year we will have a rookie draft sometime in June. The Rookie draft will be inverse as to how you finished the season with the worst team picking first and the champ picking last. The draft will be two rounds, and will have a set rookie pay scale as such.
Round 1
Pick 1 - $12
Pick 2 - $10
Pick 3 - $8
Pick 4 - $7
Pick 5 - $6
Pick 6 - $5
Round 2
All Picks - $2
Again you can choose how long you want to sign these players within the parameters set in the roster rules. You do not have to pick a player in the Rookie Draft if you don’t want to, or can’t due to cap restrictions. All non drafted rookies will go into the Free Agent pool.
Next in the off season comes off season Free Agents.
Starting the first week in July a set list of Free Agents will be put out that can be bid on for that week. We will take a vote to see how we want to select the free agents, whether we do it from Best to Worst, or randomly.
When the list is released for that week, you will send your bids, (money plus years) to the 3rd party email, just like during the season. Then on Fridays, the email password will be released so everybody can go look at who bid for who, then the password will be reset Sunday night and a new crop of FA will be released the following Monday.
Expansion Draft.
If, after the season, we have some people that are interested in joining the NTFF, we will have an expansion draft before the Rookie Draft.
Expansion on the league has to come in at least pairs. With the first one bringing us to 8 teams, the roster rules will change a bit, moving to a more traditional 1QB 2RB 2WR/TE 1Flex 1Def 1K. The expansion draft goes like this.
Each team will be able to protect 3 players from their rosters at the start. The two expansion teams will snake draft a 15 round expansion draft. When the expansion team select a player from your roster, you have the ability to protect another player from your roster. Example:
You have QB Mike Jones, RB Rod Smith, WR Joe Williamson, RB Brandon Gruber, TE James Bluto and QB Felix Sanchez on your roster. You choose to protect Jones, Smith, and Williamson before the draft. When the expansion team selects Gruber, you can then protect Sanchez so he can’t be picked up.
The players that they pick up from poaching your roster will have their contracts carry over to the next season. Example:
If Expansion team picks Mike Jones, who’s contract is $14 for 1 year, that becomes his first year contract for the expansion team.
The Expansion team will then be given the first 2 picks in the Rookie Draft in each round, depending on a coin flip as to which team picks first.
I think that about covers it, I plan on creating a website for the league and then using ESPN or Yahoo’s free gamtracker service just for live scoring and the like.
